RECIPE:
Ingredients:
4-5 Pears
4 Cups of red wine (I recommend a sweeter wine such as a merlot or another dessert wine)
4 Cinnamon sticks
3/4 Cup monkfruit sweetener
Optional: iced cream to serve with the pears
Directions:
To a sauce pan (sized so that the pears fit snug inside), add the red wine, cinnamon sticks and monkfruit,
Heat the wine and mix until the sweetener dissolves,
While the wine heats, peel the skin off of the pears (I do this right before I am going to place them in the poaching liquid so the pears don’t turn brown),
Once the poaching liquid is simmering, add in the pears so they sare sitting up straight,
Soak the pears for 20-25 minutes in the simmering liquids. Every 5 minutes, rotate the pears so a different side of the pears is submerged in the liquid (the red wine stains the pears and makes it easier to see what side still needs to be soaked). The last part that should be submerged is the top,
once the pears are poached, remove from the heat and allow to cool in the poaching liquid.
Serve these warm or cool, on their own or with a scoop of iced cream!
